Solutions to Overcome Minimalist House Roofs That Often Leak

If you know the solution for a roof that leaks frequently, it's actually not that difficult.

For those of us who live in the tropics, sometimes we are bothered with high rainfall during the rainy season. This sometimes makes some of us have problems with leaks on the roof of the house due to continuous rain for almost six months.

Uncertain climatic conditions sometimes make our homes often leak, especially for the type of house that uses a pyramid roof or a ceiling-shaped roof. So what is the solution to overcome the roof of the house that often leaks?

Here are some things you can do to fix a leaky roof:

A. Rearranging the Roof Construction

The first alternative is to rearrange the roof construction of your house. That way the potential for leaks that will occur will be much smaller if you have rearranged the roof construction. If you're still using tile as your roof and it keeps leaking, it might be a good idea to try using an asbestos roof instead of concrete. The two roofing materials can be a solution for leaking houses during the rainy season.

You can also replace cracked or crushed tiles. Maybe you accidentally stepped on the tile while repairing the roof causing the tile to crack. The next possibility is that you will have to rearrange the roof construction because the roof tiles are sagging due to strong winds. If this is the case, you must hurry to fix it in the right place.

B. Using Leak-Proof Coating Sheet

The second roofing solution is to use a leak-proof coating sheet on the underside of the tile. This leak-proof layer will work when the tile leaks and the incoming water will continue to come out.

Polymer or Acrylic

The first coating material is more elastic which can be used as a roof coating (leak tile) and acrylic is more commonly used as wall paint. This coating material is quite popular. You simply apply it with a brush or roll to the roof you want to coat.

Cement or Liquid Additive

The next coating as a solution to overcome the roof of the house is a reinforcing liquid (additive) with a mixture of water and cement in it. You can use brands like Aquaguard, Asanaproof, Pantens, Supercement. The function of this coating is the same, namely to make the roof or concrete more sturdy and watertight.

Asphalt

The last leak-proof roof layer is asphalt. Bitumen is different from the above two layers. Bitumen has an asphalt-based base material, so the choices are more limited. No wonder modern roof models use this material as a roof coating. You can choose this asphalt in the form of a paste or a sheet membrane (roll).

C. Back Dak. Concrete

If you are using a non-concrete roof, then you must first inspect every part of the roof. If your concrete is not leaking, try fixing it in the following way.

You can check the cause of the leak from the concrete drain

If the leak is caused by structural faults, non-standard materials, less inclined surfaces, and the like. This damage can only be solved by fixing (renovating) the problem.

Meanwhile, leakage due to the use of water proof is not good. You can overcome this by replacing the old water proof and then coating it with a new water proof.

D. Maximizing the Gutter Function

The final solution for the roof of the house is to maximize the function of the gutter to drain water effectively. Gutters should be made much lower than the drain you are making, so that water can drain easily.

The problem that often occurs in houses that use non-concrete is that stagnant water cannot flow smoothly. The use of gutters must provide a solution so that there is no leakage on the roof of your minimalist house.

e. Installing Plastic Under the Roof

Especially if the rainy season arrives and you are worried that water could seep between the tiles. You can cover the underside of the roof with plastic. The trick, after installing the wooden foundation, then install the plastic. This method is commonly used in residential or rural areas.
